The days are not always profound

Ever since I started my quest to write something every day for a year, I try to find the "profound" in my life. Some days, I have interesting tales to share. Others, I really struggle to find things to share. Today was one of those days.

Unless you could say that cleaning out the garage and moving things to our new shed is profound and interesting, my day today was simply "living life." From 9am - 6:30pm, Cyndi and I accomplished a goal that was looming over us for months. Years, possibly. But at the end of the day, we finished what we started. Our cars are in the garage, the new shed is starting to take shape, and we are wiped out.

The only thing that might correlate with my quest is a minor thing that happened at Wal-Mart. We have a Wal-Mart two blocks from our house. It's one of the places we go to on a regular basis to buy things for the house. It's not a "Super Wal-Mart," but it has many of the conveniences we need. The store is currently going through a renovation, and in 61 more days (there's a sign that counts them down), we will have a newly designed establishment.

As they are making changes, we are beginning to notice new items for sale. For instance, Cyndi was in the store the other day, and she noticed that the store had wine. We have never been able to buy alcohol from our Wal-Mart. She got a cheap $2.99 bottle of White Zinfandel (don't ask), and was hopeful that the store will begin to carry other things we might need.

When I stopped there today, I picked up some beer. Again, I've never been able to buy beer there, so it's kind of cool that I can. When I went to buy the beer, the clerk scanned the package, and the register displayed the following words: "Is the person 40 years old?" In Elk Grove, you have to show your ID for alcohol no matter how old you are. The clerk had already asked me for mine, but repeated aloud the words the register displayed.

"No," she said, seemingly to the register. "He is only 39."

"I'm only 39," I said. "Thanks for noticing."

Like I said...nothing profound today!
