Driver's License Weight

I've been lying to the State of Illinois for over ten years. It's just a little white lie, really. It's nothing that will get me arrested or anything, I believe. I've been lying for a couple of reasons: 1) Laziness. There's really no motivation not to lie. I rationalize with myself that it really doesn't matter what I say. The person behind the counter could care less if I tell them the truth or not. He/she just wants to get through his/her day without incident; 2) Hope. I've read in sales books that "hope is not a strategy," and in sales, maybe that's true. But when it comes to certain things in life, like this, hope can and should be a true motivation. Women hold on to those old jeans, the ones they wore before pregnancy, with hope they will fit in them once again. Guys might keep an expensive suit hanging in the corner of the closet, with hope one day they can, once again, be a "sharp dressed man."

I don't really look at my driver's license that much. It comes out when I am at the airport, or when I (thank you very much) get carded, but I don't pay much attention to the information on it. I know what it says. I know some if it is untrue.

But today, I'm a little more honest. The numbers prove it.

I just wonder: if the numbers continue to go down, let's say five or ten more digits, will I take the time to inform the DMV? Hope, probably, shouldn't work in reverse.
